Discovery Bay, a town in Saint Ann Parish in Jamaica, is one of the most sought out natural attractions in Jamaica. It is a land characterized by magnificent hills, crystal clear streams and dramatic landscapes. The area gets its name from the fact that it is here that Christopher Columbus is believed to have landed in 1494.
Where to stay?
While you can stay in a hotel, a better option can be to rent an exclusive Jamaican villa, cottage, condo, apartment or studio. This is because Jamaica is the birthplace of the concept of the all-inclusive resorts and so while you are here, you can stay in one and get a first hand experience of why these are so popular. These vacation homes are fully staffed and provide all services which you would normally associate with a hotel and so there is no need to worry that you would have to take care of the daily chores yourself. All you have to do is sit back and relax and explore Discovery Bay and what the rest of the island has to offer.
Activities in and around Discovery Bay
The main attraction here is Ocho Rios, a scenic town, which hosts the Dunn’s River Falls. The scintillating waterfall is a sight to behold and it has steps leading up to the top from where you can take in the spectacular views of the surroundings. If you wish, you can also splash in the waters and enjoy a family picnic in the surroundings.
Then there is the Dolphin Cove, which is definitely worth checking out. As the name suggests, it is a marine amusement part perfect for a family outing. It is located near the Dunn’s River Falls and here you can swim with dolphins, and if you are adventurous enough, even swim with the sharks. Besides, you can captain your own mini-boat or take a glass-bottom kayaking trip to see the marine life of the Caribbean Sea.
Discovery Bay also provides convenient access to some of the best beaches on the north shore of Jamaica. You can splash in the water, laze away the hours in a hammock, build sand castles with your kids, or go kayaking, diving or white water rafting. Most beaches are lined with eateries and so if you are hungry, you can catch a bite of the local delicacies without having to venture out far.
Jamaica is also known for its rum and so while there, you can also check out some of the working plantations there. One plantation worth a mention is Prospect Plantation, which you can explore on horseback and discover numerous scenic trails.
The golf enthusiasts will not be disappointed. Discovery Bay is well connected to some of the best golf courses in Jamaica, including the SuperClubs Golf Club.
